Dan
Beyer - Detroit, Michigan, USA.
Hi. My name is Daniel Beyer, but
my friends call me Dan.
 |
I was born in
Detroit Michigan on August 29, 1954 to John and Clara Beyer.
My dad has since passed away.
I was
diagnosed at three months of age with Glanzmann’s
Thrombasthenia. I have also been re-tested two or three
times since then. I have three sisters and one brother,
none of whom have G. T., thank God!
I started
kindergarten and after repeating kindergarten due to missing
so much school with bleeds, I was able to start first grade. |
However,
I don’t think I made it through the first part of the year
before being home schooled. After moving to a nearby suburb of
Detroit, I was able to go back to high school and graduate! I
met my wife, Chris, while I was attending college. Chris and I
have been married 31 ½ years. We have three children ranging
from 22 to 26 years of age, and one granddaughter. None of them
have G. T.. My wife, Chris, is a registered nurse and although
I am medically on disability, I have obtained two associates degrees.
As a child, I spent
half of my life in the hospital until about the age of twelve.
From twelve to my mid thirties, I did not have many problems.
When I hit my late thirties, early forties, I began having more
problems. In 1999 I had my stomach removed after being in the
hospital for fourteen months due to intermittent bleeding. Most
of my hospitalization since then has been due to G. I. bleeds
and small intestine bleeds. I have had innumerable transfusions
of platelets and red blood cells. Currently, most of my bleeding
is nose bleeds, gum bleeds, small cuts and bruises.
A little over a year
ago, I received Novo 7 for the first time. I have been receiving
Amacar for several years orally at home and intravenously in the
hospital. Through much of my life, I was advised not to participate
in recreational activities. Today I love to golf, go fishing,
canoeing and I prefer low class white water rafting. I used to
play softball for my church team. Chris and I sometimes bowl on
a bowling league.
Through the years,
Christ, my wife, and my family have stuck by me through all of
my trials and tribulations. I am still here… and I intend
to be for many years to come.
